Short Bio

Lekan Balogun has a PhD in Global Shakespeare (Theatrical & Filmic Adaptation and Appropriation) and Intercultural Performance (VUW, Wellington, New Zealand) and a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts (Distinction) in Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria where he has taught Postcolonial Dramaturgies, Creative Writing and Performance Aesthetics, before joining the Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies (CTDPS), University of Cape Town, South Africa, on the Andrew W. Mellon funded "Reimagining Tragedy from Africa and the Global South" (ReTAGS). His project on the Bayreuth Academy Advanced African Studies fellowship entitled "Living With Horror Without End in a Postcolony" examines through the lens of drama and performance, the trauma associated with armed violence, banditry and terrorism in northern Nigeria that have led to the growing number of displaced peoples and Internally Displaced People's Camps (IDP).
